Potential Demy participation in #Eurovision brings Greece back on the map

Potential Demy participation in #Eurovision brings Greece back on the map

photo: ODDSCHECKER.com

GREECE – Few days before the final ERT decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, the betting odds bring Greece in the top five of the bets when even yesterday the country was in the 17th position. Why is that? The only explanation is the rumours about Demy representing Greece in Kyiv.

While Demy and Stereo Soul are the final two bids for ERT to decide according to all information given, Demy’s bid seems to bring Greece back on the Eurovision map as a favourite. This reminds us the Margaret case last year with Poland. Not that Stereo Soul would be a bad solution for the country but Demy’s case is different.

Demy is more experienced on stage, has dozens of hits in the Greek market, she’s backed up by the Greek Eurovision Dream Team (Kontopoulos / Evangelinos) and she is favourite among the Eurofans and the Greek audience in general. For the first time for years now, Greece is placed high in the betting odds – and we don’t even have the song for Kyiv!

Should this say something to the inexperienced managers of ERT? In the meantime you can have a say in our poll whether your favourite Eurovision representative for Greece is and should be Demy or Stereo Soul.

Israel: 9 acts qualify from first heats of The Next Star (UPD)

Israel: 9 acts qualify from first heats of The Next Star (UPD)

The first nine acts in Israel have made it through to the next round of The Next Star of Eurovision in Israel, the talent show which is used as the format to pick the Israeli entry for Kiev. Among them is former Idol winner Diana Golbi.

The first of 10 shows were held Monday in Israel, to ultimately determine who will represent them at Eurovision in Kiev. While 40% of the results came from the judges, the rest (60%) came from the studio audience during filming. There were 4 judges so each judge had 10% of the final say.

The 7 qualifiers from the first show, and their percentages are as follows:

  • Diana Golbi (95%)
  • Imri Ziv (93%)
  • Beatbox Element (91%)
  • Judy Layne (81%)
  • Lee Sabach (79%)
  • Hallelujah (Halli) Lewis (77%)
  • Ta-La-Te (75%)

Some of these 7 qualifiers are known within Israel. Diana Golbi previously won the Israeli version of Pop Idol in 2010. If she wins Rising Star, she will be the sixth Israeli Eurovision participant that has participated on the show. The others include Shiri Maimon (2005), Boaz Mauda (2008), Harel Skaat (2010), Mei Finegold (2014) and Hovi Star (2016).

The next day, a shorter show was being televised. The level of the competition was not as strong as in the first heat, since only two acts made it through to the next round:

  • Sapir Nahon (88%)
  • Osher Biton (77%)

The third show of The Next Star of Eurovision can be seen on Monday the 9th January at 20:30 CET.

The Netherlands 2017: O’G3NE have their top three ready for Kyiv

The Netherlands 2017: O’G3NE have their top three ready for Kyiv

THE NETHERLANDS – Former Junior Eurovision experience, more mature and O’G3NE are ready for Kyiv. They have listened to dozens of songs and narrowed them to three.

Shelley Vol says: “It’s going well. We had a writers camp some weeks ago and we got a lot of nice songs from there. We have currently narrowed down to a top three. They are three totally different songs, so the question is more, what do we want? What message do we want to bring? I think people shouldn’t be surprised about the choice. We will stay close to ourselves. We want to clearly show off our polyphonic sound.”

Gordon Groothedde, Han Kooreneef, their dad Rick Vol and others are among the three teams who composed their Eurovision potential entries.

“There was choice enough. We can’t say: “Oh, we hoped for better songs,” because I think we have heard all sorts of songs now. So, we were very blessed with that.”

There’s no information when the song for Kyiv will be decided and revealed. So we have to wait a bit more. Having in mind that the recent results in Eurovision are promising for The Netherlands, we expect the Dutch entry to be notable enough at least for the fans.
